Guelph Write Now came about because I met a man. Not just any man, the love of my life.
I had been living in Milton, Ontario and looking for a writing group. I missed my Toronto Romance Writers meetings. That networking and talking with other writers, people who "got" me. The man of my dreams lived in Guelph. We started dating. It got serious and I started spending a lot of time there. More than in Milton. So, I wanted a group close by that I could join. But there wasn't a writing group in Guelph that had what I wanted. So I created Guelph Write Now in August 2009.
The first meeting was a great discussion on what everyone wanted the group to be. Lots of people wanted critiques so our next meeting was a critique meeting. Members are writing in a variety of genres and mediums. Everyone received insightful, helpful feedback. We have a diverse group from scientists, university students, journalists, IT personnel.
Since that first meeting we've had more critique sessions. Creative writing exercises. Workshops on creating characters and getting motivated as writers. We've had Q & A sessions with published authors. And attended a meet and greet for the Guelph Arts Council.
